How Much Does Social Media Management Cost?

What businesses should compare in social media management proposals beyond the number of posts.

Social media management prices vary because “management” can mean scheduling existing posts or owning the strategy, creative, publishing, community interactions and reporting. Before comparing quotes, make sure each proposal describes the same work.

Start with the audience and job of the channel

Social can support discovery, credibility, customer service, community or campaign distribution. A program designed around executive thought leadership needs different skills than one focused on short-form entertainment or customer support. Define the audience and expected outcome before purchasing a number of posts.

What changes the monthly scope?

  • Channels: each platform may need distinct formats and moderation.
  • Content production: copy only is different from design, photography and video.
  • Publishing: calendars, approvals, formatting and scheduling.
  • Community: monitoring, response guidelines and escalation.
  • Strategy: research, creative direction, testing and campaign alignment.
  • Reporting: engagement analysis, website behavior and recommendations.

Why post count is a poor comparison

Ten simple text-and-image posts are not equivalent to ten filmed and edited videos. Nor is a brand that supplies all raw creative comparable to one asking the agency to develop every idea. Ask for samples of deliverables and a description of the complete workflow behind them.

Who owns the content and accounts?

Clarify who controls publishing access, creative source files, licenses, approvals and response policies. If creators or photographers are involved, confirm usage rights and whether paid amplification requires separate permissions.

Connect performance to business objectives

Reach and engagement can indicate audience interest, but metrics should match the goal. If social supports awareness, monitor relevant reach, video consumption and brand searches. If it supports lead generation, evaluate quality traffic and downstream inquiries without assuming every interaction should convert.

What a useful proposal should include

  1. Audience, channels and priorities.
  2. Monthly content types, not just quantities.
  3. Ownership of creative, approvals and accounts.
  4. Community management coverage and response boundaries.
  5. Measurement, reporting cadence and improvement process.

Choose the operating model that your team can support and that serves the audience. The best retainer is not automatically the one promising the most posts.
